A Novelty Purse Is the Only Bag You Need This Summer

0

Summer’s (almost) here, and that means sandals, linen sundresses and, in the case of summer 2024, novelty bags. FYI: Kitschy handbags are the summer accessory. Not convinced? Look no further than the 2024 Met Gala red carpet. This year’s annual fashion fête featured stars like Tyla and Camila Cabello walking the infamous Met steps in gorgeous gowns accessorized with cheeky themed bags. We’re talking purses designed to look like everyday items, from a can of sardines to a martini and an hourglass.

For her first appearance at the Met Gala, Tyla had everyone talking about her custom Balmain dress made of literal sand. Leaning into the look — and this year’s “The Garden of Time” dress code — the South African signer accessorized her jaw-dropping (and tough to walk in) gown with a purse in the shape of an old school hourglass.

Walking the same carpet, Cabello took a cue from the Met newbie, carrying a literal block of ice encasing a gold rose as her bag-like accessory (which was, per the singer’s Instagram caption, a nod to the fact that everything is fleeting). Poetic!

A post shared by camila (@camila_cabello)

To be fair, this is far from the first time novelty bags have had a moment. If anything, the ladies of Selling Sunset have been onto the trend for a minute. Who could forget Christine Quinn’s iconic chair “bag” or Amanza’s Chanel basketball? And designers like Moschino and Balenciaga have become known for creating kitschy purses that look like everything from McDonald’s fries (delish!) to an oversized red lipstick case or even a garbage bag.

Now, the trend has trickled down from the red carpet and off our TV screens into some of our fave retailers, with stores like Anthropologie and brands including Staud, Edie Parker, JW Anderson and Saint Laurent bringing some of our fave objects to life — and letting us tote them around to brunch or patio drinks with our besties.

The rise in popularity of novelty purses in the year of our lord 2024 shouldn’t be too surprising. The last year we’ve seen method dressing — a styling technique utlized by stars like Zendaya and stylist Law Roach — become ubiquitous on the red carpet. Margot Robbie leaned into Barbiecore for the release of Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, while the aforementioned Zendaya dressed on theme to promote Dune: Part Two and Challengers. Her Challengers press tour specifically highlighted the fact that inanimate objects, like tennis balls, can be incorporated seamlessly into high fashion looks, and that a quirky accessory can be really chic.

Designers have also been tapping into kitsch in a related, and somewhat chaotic way, with intentionally overly accessorized purses. Recently, designers like Coach and Miu Miu sent overstuffed, bag charm-decorated bags down their spring runwayss. Reportedly inspired by Jane Birkin and her affinity for hanging doodads on her designer  handbags (the actress was, after all, the OG lived-in Birkin enthusiast), the recipe for the perfectly accessorized bag is pretty easy: More is more.

Whether you’re going with a full theme or just want to add a few cute charms to your fave everyday handbag, summer is the perfect time to whip out a kitschy, if kind-of-impractical, bag. With temps rising. you have the perfect flirty ‘fits to accompany them, don’t need a massive bag to stuff with gloves and beanies and summer dressing is just more, well, fun.

In the market for a novelty bag that’ll make even Selling Sunset’s useless handbag bag queen Amanza turn green with envy? We’ve rounded up some options below.

Staud Carmella Beaded Clutch

Arguably the brand that made unique novelty purses (somewhat) accessibly priced, Staud says “Love sardines? Wear the salty little treats on your handbag!” This beaded shoulder bag is perfect for your upcoming Italian holiday (or just a frolick around the city with friends).

The Best Jean Shorts to Freshen Up Your Summer Style

0

Whether you know them as jorts, Daisy Dukes or good old thigh-grazers, jean shorts are a universally beloved part of the warm-weather outfit equation. And this summer, they’re more ubiquitous than ever. From trending Bermuda shorts to celeb-favoured hot pants, the classic design has a shapeshifting effect that can be dressed up or down.

How to style jean shorts in 2024

Torn about what style to try? Toronto-based stylist Tania Tonello says to go long. “I’m loving that we’re seeing more Bermuda lengths this summer because they’re so comfortable and versatile,” she explains, adding that they’re easy to wear. “They can be styled casually with sandals and a tank, as workwear with loafers and a button-up or elevated with heels and a sheer top.”

Photography courtesy of Launchmetrics.com/spotlight

As a rule of thumb when it comes to selecting the right pair of jean shorts for you, Tonello says to take into account the visual finish you’re after. “Consider whether you’re looking to elongate or shorten your frame,” she says. “Shorter denim shorts will elongate the leg while longer lengths will do the opposite.”

Photography courtesy of Launchmetrics.com/spotlight

When in doubt, take matters into your own hands to craft the ideal length. “If you find the perfect style but they’re too long for your frame, cut off additional length to create a raw hem or cuff them.” With the denim’s durability, DIY designs are easy to achieve.

In Toronto’s trendy Yorkville neighbourhood on April 24, luxury French childrenswear brand Bonpoint launched its much-anticipated Bonpoint x Pokémon collection. The charming Bloor Street boutique played host to an exclusive shopping event and celebration organized in partnership with FASHION and The Drop, attracting some of the city’s most stylish families.

The fun, lively evening saw some of the city’s most stylish individuals—including model Yasmin Warsame, creators Sasha Exeter and Cher Bai, fashion designer Hannah Kim and stylist Zeina Esmail—and their children shopping both the new drop and Bonpoint’s beautiful spring collection at the new Bonpoint boutique on Bloor street, the French brand’s new Canada location.

The new Bonpoint x Pokémon capsule features a stylishly adorable range of clothing, accessories and skincare products for babies and children. A portion of proceeds from the shopping event along with 10 per cent of all sales from the launch week were donated to CAMH, Canada’s largest mental health teaching hospital and a leading research centre in Toronto.

The party featured great tunes by DJ Sophie Jones, and a colouring and art station, which kept the young attendees well entertained throughout the evening and way past many bedtimes. Fashionable littles danced with friends, tried on their favourite pieces from the new collection, and posed for sweet family snaps in front of the customized event backdrop.

Guests were treated to bubbly, juice and delicious canapés alongside kid-friendly treats such as Pokémon-themed cookies, fresh fruit, macarons, candied apples, gourmet marshmallows and coloured popcorn.

Attendees also received curated gift bags, Bonpoint skincare products and fragrances, the latest issue of FASHION and more—an exciting finish to a high-energy, high-impact evening celebrating a covetable new collaboration.

Who Was Missing from the 2024 Met Gala?

0

Fashion’s Super Bowl, the Met Gala, is the event for many celebrities — the one night they can truly go wild with fashion and beauty, donning pieces of art that are meant to be ogled instead of marketed to be sold (if they can score a coveted invite, of course). It’s a huge night for anyone who loves looking at beautiful people wearing beautiful things, which is why it’s major news when a Met Gala regular skips out. And at the 2024 Met Gala, there were a lot of red carpet fixtures who didn’t dress up this year. Below, all the Met Gala 2024 missing stars who missed fashion’s biggest fête in 2024.

Anne Hathaway

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Anne Hathaway (@annehathaway)

While actress Anne Hathaway isn’t necessarily a Met Gala shoe-in (the Idea of You star attended in 2023 after a four-year hiatus from the event), an appearance at the gala this year would have made sense given the hot streak Hathaway has been on. After a stylish press tour for Prime Video’s The Idea of You and a fashion renaissance in recent years, it has undoubtedly been the year of Hathaway. Which is why we’re so disappointed that the former Princess of Genova didn’t walk the botanical green carpet —  you know it would have been a look.

Bella Hadid

A post shared by HAUTE FASHION (@themetgalaofficial)

While we would have loved to see the model-turned-rancher bring a bit of country to the “Garden of Time,” it makes sense that the younger Hadid sister didn’t join sister Gigi to walk the famous stairs. The model has taken a step back from the fashion industry in the last year, moving to Texas full-time and dating an IRL cowboy. She seems happy with her new way of life, something Hadid herself shared in a recent interview with Allure. “After 10 years of modelling, I realized I was putting so much energy and love and effort into something that, in the long run, wasn’t necessarily giving it back to me,” Hadid told the magazine.

Hadid went on to say that for the first time, she wasn’t putting on a “fake face,” saying: “Now when anybody sees me in a picture and they say I look happy, I genuinely am.” Given that ringing endorsement of life away from the fashion industry, it comes as no surprise that Hadid would take a back from fashion’s biggest night, although she was in New York earlier the week prior launching her fragrance line Orebella, so we had hopes she’d turn up on Met Gala night.

Beyoncé

Another big name no-show this year was Cowboy Carter herself. The last time Beyoncé graced the steps was all the way back in 2016 so her absence wasn’t a huge surprise. While many fans thought she’d make an appearance on the heels of the release of her latest album, Bey is honestly probably just too busy working on Act III to take time out of schedule for some little fashion event.

Blake Lively

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Blake Lively (@blakelively)

Alongside Rihanna, actress Blake Lively is one of the Queen’s of the Met. The A Simple Favor actress is one of the few celebs to consistently nail the theme and somehow manages to often — and one would assume unintentionally — match the carpet on the Met steps. Now that’s dressing. While the actress hasn’t shared why she missed the event, Lively has been busy lately, recently filming A Simple Favor 2 in Italy. So, maybe jet lag?

Jennifer Lawrence

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Jamie Mizrahi (@sweetbabyjamie)

While Jennifer Lawrence has had a comeback in the last year, it looks like that didn’t extend to the Met Gala. After last attending in 2015, Lawrence skipped this year. Given the fact that she hasn’t been a fixture at the Met ball in nine years, it’s no shocker that she once again didn’t attend. As one of fashion’s current It girlies, we would have loved to see what quiet luxury look the star and her stylist Jamie Mizrahi came up with.

Rihanna

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by badgalriri (@badgalriri)

The undisputed queen of the Met Gala, Rihanna always knows how to shut down the red carpet. Her looks come to define and perfectly reflect the theme of the night. Despite the fact that she’s literally otherworldly, the singer’s reason for missing the 2024 Met Gala is pretty human — she came down with the flu.

Taylor Swift

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by HIGH FASHION (@metgala.official)

Like Beyoncé, singer Taylor Swift hasn’t attended the Met Gala in almost a decade, last appearing on the Met red carpet in 2016. It was a pretty big year for the singer, who not only co-chaired the event, but also reportedly met future beaus Tom Hiddleston and Joe Alwyn inside its hallowed walls. (FYI, she was dating DJ Calvin Harris at the time.)

Swift has had a pretty big year, to put it lightly, and reportedly declined her invite to focus on prep for the European leg of her Eras Tour. Still, we were crossing our fingers for a Taylor Swift x Travis Kelce red carpet hard launch.

Selena Gomez

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Selena Gomez (@selenagomez)

The Rare Beauty founder and star of Only Murders In the Building opted out of fashion’s big night after her last appearance in 2018. While Gomez hasn’t commented on just where she was, the star has a complicated history with the event. Not to mention she was probably at home cuddled up and blissed out with her new boo Benny Blanco.

All the Celebs Who Couldn’t Move in Their Met Gala Gowns

0

There was a new virus going around New York City last night. It’s name is Met Gala Stairs-itis and there’s no known cure (besides, you know, choosing an outfit and/or footwear you can actually walk in).

In case you missed it, on May 6, the biggest stars in movies, music and fashion hit the botanical green carpet of the 2024 Met Gala, outfitted with the evening’s “Garden of Time” dress code in mind. As expected, there were a lot of hits (yes, Mindy!), a few misses (really, Doja Cat?) and many celebs who were rendered temporarily immobile in the name of fashion.

Cardi B’s gargantuan gown required the help of eight burly men to maneuvre. Tyla went viral for being picked-up like a Barbie doll to get up the sprawling steps, as her dress wouldn’t allow her to bend her knees. Even Elle Fanning was captured breaking into a discreet side shuffle to get around.

But what is beauty, if not pain? Who needs to walk, breathe or eat when you look that good? (*Sarcasm*) Certainly not these stars. Scroll to see which other attendees were captured struggling in their Met Gala gowns.

Cardi B

@culted Cardi B said “idgaf about your personal space” with this huge @giambattistavalli gown at the Met Gala Wdyt of this look? 📸: @crfashionbook / @metmuseum #cardib #metgala #metgala2024 #fashion #celebrity #giambattistavalli #tiktokfashion ♬ originalljud – KC

How many people does it take to help one rapper climb the Met Gala stairs? If you’re Cardi B, the answer is eight! Closing out the red carpet, Cardi B arrived in an enormous black tulle creation by the up-and-coming Chinese-Belgian brand Windowsen.

Seemingly swallowing her whole, the gown required no less than eight handlers anytime the rapper needed to move, which, considering there are about 60 stairs at the Met main entrance, was a lot! No news yet on how she got to her seat for the dinner portion of the evening, but we’re praying she didn’t take out all the decadently decorated tables with her.

Tyla

@livinwithnic @Tyla looked absolutely STUNNING 😍👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 #metgala2024 #metgala #metmonday #tylawater #tyla #tylametgala #metgalalooks #popculture #livinwithnic ♬ Barbie World – &lt3

For most people, being lifted by a series of strong men is a smut-like fantasy, but for South African singer and songwriter, Tyla, it was a logistical nightmare. Sporting a Balmain creation made entirely of sand (sands of time, get it?) the first-time Met Gala-attendee went viral when a video of her being carried up the stairs hit the internet. The dress was so fragile and form-fitting, Tyla was physically unable to bend her body enough to sit. So what did Balmain creative director Olivier Rousteing do? Once inside, he took a pair of scissors and cut his own creation. How she actually ate food is yet to be determined.

Gigi Hadid

@met_gala.2024 Gigi hadid for the met gala . #gigihadid #viral #fyp #foryou #metgala #2024 #xyzbca ♬ original sound – star.felixx

Thom Browne knew what he was doing when he designed Gigi Hadid’s Met Gala gown. While it still took four grown men to help the supermodel up the red carpet, the dress actually had two layers. The first was a column-like gown that acted as the base and can be seen peeking through the top. And the second was a removable voluminous skirt that took a team of 40 people more than 8,500 hours to embroider. As a Met Gala veteran, Hadid has clearly learned to prioritize practicality. She wore a similar under- and outerlayer system for the 2022 event, with a removable coat by Versace.

Elle Fanning

There comes a time in every woman’s life when she needs to side step, and for Elle Fanning, her time was the 2024 Met Gala. After making her entrance in an iridescent Balmain gown, Elle Fanning was a damsel in distress waiting to be rescued from the Met Gala stairs. Ever the quick thinker, the Maleficent actress decided to side-saddle her way to the top, with the help of two possible princes in waiting (i.e. dreamy Met volunteers). But she clearly didn’t have a chip, or rather bird, on her shoulder, as Fanning was captured giggling through the whole experience. Consider her Disney Princess status cemented.

Kim Kardashian

@kardashianstan__ Kim Kardashian at the 2024 Met Gala! #kimkardashian #kardashians #metgala #viral #foryoupage ♬ original sound – kardashianstan__

The 2024 Met Gala was not Kim Kardashian’s night. First, it’s rumoured she had a last-minute wardrobe malfunction with her Maison Margiela gown, hence the grey shrug and her claw-like hand clutching onto it for dear life. Then, she had to play a one person game of dodgeball, as Lana Del Rey’s tree dress kept threatening to hit her during their joint Vogue interview. But the last straw was during dinner service. According to the latest podcast episode of ‎“The Run-Through with Vogue,” Zac Posen had to come to the Skims founder’s rescue when she was stranded on another set of stairs. Struggling with her dress, Posen apparently “moved her like a chess piece,” so she could get where she was going. At least she managed to find some slippers later on that night.

Nicki Minaj

@voguegermany @Nicki Minaj at the #metgala 2024. #voguegermany #metgala2024 #nickiminaj #nickiminajchallenge #nickiminajedit #nickiminajvideos #metgalastyle #metgalalooks ♬ original sound – Stan 🙂

At first glance, Nicki Minaj seems to have outsmarted the system: wear something short but sweet and have heels you can actually walk in. But according to the Vogue podcast, the drama happened inside The Met, when it came time to sit for dinner. You see, the rapper’s Marni gown, made of painted satin fabric, actually featured a plethora of protruding metal petals. Because of this, she was unable to sit in a chair with a back. So the organizers of the event brought her a stool for the remainder of the night, and she apparently was one of the first celebs to stand after dinner was over, as the outfit was so uncomfortable to sit in. No pain, no gain indeed.

Sorry Kim, But Extreme Thinness Isn’t a Fashion Stunt

0

The annual Met Gala brought celebs back to the Metropolitan Museum of Art carpet in some serious looks. From gravity-defying nature-inspired headpieces to theatrical makeup and avante-garde gowns (singer Tyla was literally wearing sand!!), the biggest stars truly pushed the limits. And that includes Kim Kardashian.

The reality TV star took to the carpet in a custom Maison Margiela look by John Galliano. The ensemble featured a cashmere cardigan draped over an antique silver brocade corset and a silver metal overskirt featuring intricate details of lace, flowers and leaves — a nod to the gala’s theme of “Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion” and dress code “The Garden of Time.”

View this post on Instagram

A post shared by Kim Kardashian (@kimkardashian)

And while Kardashian’s look was undoubtedly on theme, it was also problematic. See: Kardashian’s exaggeratedly-cinched corset, which made the star’s already typically tiny waist almost non-existent, and left the Skims founder looking uncomfortable (and possibly even a little faint?) on the carpet. Kardashian’s Met Gala 2024 look doesn’t only promote unrealistic and not to mention unsafe beauty standards, but her ability to treat extreme thinness as a fashion statement she wears here and there trivializes the real experience of people, namely those struggling with disordered eating or body dysmorphia.

To be fair, this is far from the first time that Kardashian — or any of her famous family members – have pushed unrealistic beauty standards. The famous fam has become almost as well-known for their edited photos and body modifications as they are for their infamous reality show. And year after year, Kim, specifically uses the Met Gala as a platform — and excuse — to push the limits of her body all in the name of fashion.

We saw it in 2019 when she donned a latex corseted Thierry Mugler gown, but arguably her most dangerous use of thinness as an accessory was at the 2022 Met Gala. Kardashian lost 16 pounds in three weeks in order to fit into Marilyn Monroe’s original 1962 Jean Louis gown. In a fitting ahead of fashion’s biggest night, featured on an episode of The Kardashians, the entrepreneur detailed her plan to fit into the dress, initially aiming to lose 10 pounds in three weeks with an intense workout regime (including running on a treadmill in a vinyl sauna suit — why, FYI, is *not* healthy) and eating “so clean and so perfect” (which is, again, not a healthy mindset when it comes to food).

It seems like every Met Gala, Kardashian pushes the boundaries in the unhealthiest of ways. And the 2024 Met Gala may take the cake. Continuing to promote unattainable body standards by pushing herself to be or look smaller isn’t a spectacular feat — it’s dangerous and just plain stupid. Not only for Kardashian, who at times looked like she was struggling to breath on the red carpet, but for those watching, as the behaviour reinforces the dated fallacy that you have to be thin to be high fashion,

The danger is that when someone with as much clout as Kardashian talks about toxic behaviour like this, it might encourage her young fans to follow suite, doing anything and everything to obtain a similar body to their idol. In fact, a 2022 study from the University of Toronto found that Kardashian and her sister Kylie Jenner contribute to harmful body image and discontentment with how women feel about their bodies. (Not to mention that when news circulated about Kardashian allegedly having butt enhancement surgery, interest in Google search terms for “butt enhancement” and “butt implants” increased dramatically. *Screams into the void*)

A post shared by Page Six (@pagesix)

For the record, every body and every size is beautiful, but treating extreme thinness like a fashion stunt that she dusts off year after year trivializes the fact that, unlike Kardashian, who can unlace her corset at the end of the night, many people struggle with body image issues and eating disorders 365 days of the year.

Chances are that Kardashian will be invited to the Met Gala once again next year, and we’re already shuddering to think of what she pushes her body to do next.

Who Is Tyla?

0

Attending the Met Gala for the first time is decidedly no small feat. There are Kim Kardashian antics to contend with, flocks of photographers shouting from all angles, and, of course, the daunting task of ascending steep steps as the internet eagerly judges on. But at the 2024 Met Gala, one newbie arguably stole the show: Tyla.

What did Tyla wear to the Met Gala?

Known best as the singer of “Water,” a bop that has taken over TikTok, the 22-year-old star came to the Met with a look that added new depth to her artistry. Wearing a body-hugging Balmain dress made of actual sand, her hourglass figure mimicked a glass timer, making for a perfectly on-theme ensemble.

ICYMI, this year’s “Garden of Time” dress code is based on a 1962 dystopian short story of the same name. Themes of the tale are nature’s dwindling resources, the passage of time and, according to Vogue, the overarching concept of “fleeting beauty.” While many stars went a more literal route by incorporating branches, rosettes and floral motifs, Tyla steered clear of the garden and wandered straight into the dessert.

Moulded to fit her body and flowing into a mermaid silhouette, her “sands of time” gown was accessorized with a literal hourglass bag among other show-stopping details. Shimmery sand stuck to her forearms and shoulders, while her glowy glam — done by legendary makeup artist Pat McGrath — evoked a sun-kissed sculpture. To top it all off, the star’s wet-looking bob added to the beachy beauty and nodded to her “Water” hit.

So, who exactly is Tyla?

Née Tyla Laura Seethal, the South African singer has been rising to mainstream heights for some time. Along with having an algorithm-dominating hit, she won her first Grammy award in 2024 — at just 22 years old. In March, she released a debut self-titled album, which has already been met with critical acclaim. So it’s perhaps no surprise, then, that her Met Gala look would be another main character moment.

Though the Met marked new territory for the singer, it isn’t her first time being deemed best dressed. At the Grammys, her pistachio cut-out gown was an instant internet favourite. And towards the end of last year, she made waves at an industry event in a wet look by cult-favourite brand Di Petsa. Her high-concept Met Gala look has only further solidified her as a fashion girlie to watch.

How long did the Tyla Met Gala look take?

The process to create the dress began two months before the Met Gala, Tyla said on the red carpet. “We wanted it to be special and take our time,” she told Emma Chamberlain before entering the event. Its organic texture adds windswept depth, outlining intricate details like her belly button and creating a statuesque ripple on the train.

What made Tyla’s look so special?

Perhaps the most standout aspect of the dress is its inherent ephemeral quality. Because it was designed to hug her proportions, it had to be somewhat destroyed in order for her to get out of it. Inside the ball, Balmain creative director Oliver Rousting posted a clip of him haphazardly chopping off the train with scissors, so Tyla could better move around.

As tough as it is to see the dress taken part just minutes after debuting on the red carpet, this image hones in on the existential ethos of the 2024 event. The Tyla Met Gala look could only be worn once — intentionally crafted to exist as a brief but memorable moment in time.

It may have been Tyla’s first Met Gala, but judging from her expert execution, it won’t be her last. In the meantime, we’ll be watching to see what she wears next.

How Gigi Hadid’s Otherwordly Met Gala Look Came to Life

0

At the Met Gala 2024, Gigi Hadid is blooming before our very eyes. Gracing the green carpet in a custom Thom Browne ensemble, she leaned into the event’s floral imagery while serving up food for thought.

The model’s white corset bodice flows into a structured billowing bottom embellished with yellow rose motifs and striking black piping. Upon closer inspection, her exaggerated skirt comprises an oversized menswear coat hanging from her hips. The result is an over-the-top oeuvre that blurs gender codes while tying in themes of rebirth and regeneration.

This year, the Costume Institute’s exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art is “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” a display that showcases rare garments spanning over 400 years of fashion history. The dress code itself — “The Garden of Time” — is all about “fleeting beauty,” according to Vogue. The mood for the Met Gala 2024 is rich with nods to nature and age-old archives, and Gigi Hadid delivered both.

Photography by Getty Images

To understand this sumptuous storytelling, we can look to celebrity stylist Mimi Cuttrell. “For Gigi’s Thom Browne look, we focused on statues and structured stone columns in a garden with vines and floral details,” she said in a statement to FASHION. Evoking a stone bust covered in overgrown foliage, the skirt alone reportedly took a team of over 40 people over 8,500 hours to embroider.

Upon first hearing the Met’s theme, Cuttrell told FASHION it made her think of art, whimsical beauty, and femininity. “Ancient statues, florals and organic textures like silks and tulle came straight to mind,” she said. Hence the elaborate embroidery and statuesque shape.

Cuttrell, who orchestrated Gigi Hadid’s gothic gauzy get-up at the 2023 Met Gala, added that she works closely with designers for a custom look that reflects her clients’ personalities. “We begin with a phone call, mood boards, seeing initial sketches and fine detailing from there.”

Along with dressing Gigi Hadid for the Met Gala 2024, Cuttrell worked with Ariana Grande and Madelyn Cline ahead of this year’s event. To craft a distinct aesthetic for each star, the stylist said she creates in-depth Pinterest boards. “I drew my inspiration for this night through art and nature predominantly by sourcing images that inspired me on Pinterest and applied them to the direction we wanted to take with each of my clients’ looks,” she said.

Gigi Hadid’s Met Gala 2024 Pinterest board (pictured below) was filled with hazy green mazes, golden flowers and meticulously well-made sculptures. Beauty-wise, Cuttrell fittingly channeled pop culture’s most timeless muse: Marilyn Monroe.

In a sea of predictable florals, Hadid struck a welcome balance of delicate romance and dapper menswear. Both forceful and feminine, Gigi Hadid’s Met Gala 2024 look combined visuals that are often used in opposition, but that are ultimately more powerful when presented side-by-side.

“Fleeting beauty” may be the underlying theme of the evening, but this look will leave a lasting impact.
